World Invitation

The organizing commission of the V World Forum of Judges, which will be held in Belém, Pará (Brazil) from January 23rd to 25th, 2009 invites judges from around the world who are committed to social change and who believe that globalization can be centered on human beings and the many environments in which they live, to participate in the World Forum of Judges. The purpose of the event is to mobilize stakeholders to democratize and secure independence of the legal systems in all countries.

Amazonia, a region still primarily covered by tropical rainforest (considered one of the largest on Earth) will be the backdrop to the meeting which, as in previous years, will be held parallel to and is part of the World Social Forum. This is thus an opportune moment and location to address issues related to the environment, social development, and preservation of human and constitutionally-guaranteed rights.

At the core of the World Forum of Judges is the integration of human rights within the legal sphere, together with the democratization of globalized views of a judiciary branch committed to effectively ensuring human rights. It will be an opportunity to question, on a global scale, the role to be played by legal systems in today’s world.
